Scheme to provide eggs to students in schools opposed: Demand to withdraw order

Bengaluru, December 2, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): Several communities have opposed the State Government’s scheme to provide eggs to students in government schools.
The Jagadguru’s of the Rashtriya Lingayath Dharma and Mahasabha Basava Mantapa has opposed the scheme mentioning that eggs are pure non-vegetarian food. “Providing eggs to students in schools will hurt the religious sentiments. Food that is acceptable to all can be served for the students in schools. Providing eggs will result in the creation of two groups, vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Hence, we demand the government to immediately withdraw the order,” they have appealed.
The Education Department has issued an order to provide eggs to the students in government schools as a measure to nurture the children who are suffering from malnutrition and anemia, under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirmal scheme. Accordingly, eggs are given to the students in seven districts of the State, and bananas are given to the students who won’t eat eggs. Several communities have opposed the scheme.
