English Summary
Title

Supreme Court Issues Notice to Election Commission Over SIR Voter Deletion Controversy

Short Description
The Supreme Court of India has issued a formal notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and CEC Gyanesh Kumar. The order follows a petition by Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The plea alleges the arbitrary deletion of millions of voters and unilateral changes to registration forms without full commission concurrence. While a bench led by CJI Surya Kant agreed to examine the ECI's decision-making under Article 324, the top court refused to grant an interim stay on the ongoing revision exercise.
