“I am inclined towards physics from the beginning: Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar

Mysuru, November 4, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “I am inclined towards physics since my college days,” observed Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore.
He inaugurated the Einstein Auditorium, in the Physics Research Department, Manasa Gangotri, that has been renovated under the RUSA grants. In his address, he said, “Many lecturers who were working in the University of Mysore had not received promotions. It was delayed by 5-6 years. However, I have attempted to give promotions during my tenure in all the departments. This way I have made sincere efforts for the teachers to work with enthusiasm. I am also self-content about this.:
“After completing PUC I was intending to join BE. There were only 14 engineering colleges in the State then. I also had got a seat in Bagalkote, but I didn’t go. I decided to do M.Sc. in Physics and also enrolled for the course. But I suffered a hand fracture in an accident and couldn’t appear for the exams. After that I did B.Ed, with an M.Sc. in Computers. I got first rank in it. Thus, my dream of pursuing M.Sc. in Physics become true,” he added.
“Later I became a lecturer and also the Vice-Chancellor. This post has given me everything, money, designation, name, fame, etc. But, even today I have special inclination towards physics. Renowned teachers have taught in the Physics department in our university. Earlier it was a small department, which has grown today. Students from other districts like Mangaluru, Shivamogga also used to come here for studies,” he observed.
Registrar Prof. R. Shivappa, Examination Registrar Prof. A.P. Jnanaprakash, PMEB Director Prof. N.K. Loknath, Prof. Sridhar, and others were present.
