Reservation very important for the exploited, like food for the hungry, let reservation be utilized properly: UoM VC

Mysuru, July 8, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): “It should be the view of agonists and leaders to take discussions related to reservations towards a more scientific platform,” opined Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore.jk
He addressed the gathering, after inaugurating a lecture on the topic “OBC reservations and Politics,’ organized by the Ambedkar Research and Extension Center, University of Mysore. “Reservation ethics are not being followed presently. Reservation is given as per population. There should be no politics in following the ethics of reservation and in implementing it, which all of us should understand,” he observed.
“Reservation is as important to the exploited, as food is important to a hungry person. The major objective of reservations is extending a helping hand to a downtrodden person. Reservation is a need, and it should be given only to a person who requires it. Merit and quota are prominent factors in reservation discussions,” he added.
Basavaraj Devanura, Visiting Professor, Ambedkar Research and Extension Center, University of Mysore, presided over the program. K.N. LIngappa, Visiting Professor, D. Devaraj Urs Bench delivered a special lecture. Prof. J. Somashekar, Director, Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre, University of Mysore was present.
