Udupi, July 13, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): Chief Minister Basavaraj S. Bommai today informed that 32 people have lost their lives due to rain in the State, and 34 have been injured.
He spoke to the media persons after an official meeting held at Udupi today. “The State witnessed heavy rain this year in July. About 300 people have been rescued and shifted to safer places. 355 hectares of crops have been lost in coastal districts including Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshin Kannada. About 106 houses have been damaged, and relief camps have been opened at 14 different places across the State. Four national disaster management teams and 4 State teams are engaged in rescue operations. Four districts have witness more than normal rainfall,” he explained.
“While 429 houses in Dakshin Kannada are damaged, 437 in Uttara Kannada and 296 houses in Udupi have been destroyed. 2187 roads and 168 bridges are damaged. I have asked to provide Rs.10,000 immediate compensation to the victims who have lost their houses. We will also provide a sum of Rs. 5 lakh to those who lose their houses,” added.
