UoM issues show cause notice to professor couple.

 

Mysuru, August 7, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): The University of Mysore has issued a show cause notice to a couple who are working as professors, following allegation of sexual harassment on a Ph.D. student appeared in the media.

As per the instructions of Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, Prof. Shivappa, Registrar, University of Mysore has issued the show cause notice to Dr. G.T. Ramachandrappa, who is a Professor in the Political Science Research Division, Manasagangotri and Dr. N.K. Lolakshi, Professor, at the Kuvempu Kannada Research Centre.

The details of the notice are as follows:

Dr. N.K. Lolakshi:

The University of Mysore has noticed the news appeared in print and electronic media, alleging sexual harassment on a Ph.D. student involving you and your husband Dr. G.T. Ramachandrappa, Professor, Political Science Research Department, on August 6, 2021. Both of you are professors of this prestigious University. You have violated the rules of the University by giving statements to the media, without referring the case properly and without taking prior permission of the University before doing so. Such statements will bring disrespect to the University. It appears as indiscipline. Hence, a show cause notice is issued instructing you to reply within 3 days after receiving this notice, failing which disciplinary action will be initiated as per CCA Rules, considering it as your acceptance.

Dr. G.T. Ramachandrappa:

Through the recent news reports appeared in the print and electronic media, the University of Mysore has come to know the allegations of sexual harassment by you on a Ph.D. student. As this matter is very serious and sensitive, we would like to inform you that it brings disrespect to the University. As you are working in a respectable post in the University you are requested to reply in writing within 3 days after receiving this show cause notice, failing which action will be taken as per CCA rules considering that you have agreed to have committed the crime.
