The political journey of Food Minister Umesh Katti who expired due to a heart attack


Bengaluru, September 7, 2022 ( Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti died today due to a massive heart attack. The last rites of the deceased will be held today at his native village Belladabagewadi, in Hukkeri Taluk, Belagavi District.
He suffered the attack at his house located in Dollars Colony in Bengaluru, on Tuesday night around 10.00 pm. He was immediately taken to the M.S. Ramaiah Hospital, but didn’t respond to the treatment and breathed his last. He was 61 years old.
He has served as the Minister of Food and Horticulture under B.S. Yediyurappa and Basavaraja Bommai’s government. Presently he was the Forest Minister. He was known for raising his voice when it comes to the issues of development of North Karnataka. He also had earned flak from several persons for proposing separate state status for North Karnataka.
Brief Introduction
Umesh Katti faced elections nine times, and won eight times and became Minister four times. He entered politics in 1985 and contested from several parties.
Till PUC he pursued his education at the KLE Society Lingaraj College in Belagavi. He got elected from the Hukkeri Assembly Constituency for the first time in 1985 from the Janata Party and tasted success in the very first attempt. He joined the Janata Dal in 1989 and won. He registered Hatrick victories by winning again in 1994. In 1999 he contested from Janata Dal (JDU) and won for the fourth time. In 2004 he contested from the Congress party ticket and lost the election. He joined the JDS again in 2008 and won.
Later he joined the BJP. He contested on a BJP ticket during the byelection and won for the 6th time. He went on to win from the Hukkeri constituency in 2013 and 2018.
Several leaders, including Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, former Deputy Chief Minister Lakshman Savadi, Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Mahanesh Kavatagimath, Balachandra Jarkiholi, Abhaya Patil, Ramesh Jarkiholi and others have condoled the untimely demise of Minister Umesh Katti.
