Outrage against govt. over hike in electricity rates: HDK warns govt. to take out a protest

Bengaluru, June 28, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): Former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has expressed his ire against the State Government for increasing the electricity rates and has warned of organizing a massive protest.
In a series of tweets, the former Chief Minister mentioned that the BJP has set an all-time record concerning price hike. “They had given the people a shock by increasing the prices on April 1. Now, again they are all set to give them another shock by increasing the power fares from July 1. All the reservoirs in the State are full following good rainfall. The power production is also good. The government itself informed that it has additional power to supply. Then what is the reason to increase the prices?,” he has questioned.
“People who consume more than 100 units of power per month should pay extra. What does it mean? should the poor and middle class people stop using electricity and live in darkness? Is it what BJP means making the lives of people bright through ‘Gati Shakti,? The people are aware about the incapability of the BJP government in managing the Energy Department. They have already burdened the people through fuel hike, now they are planning to loot them further by increasing the prices of electricity,” his tweet read.
“BJP means price hike, price hike means BJP. It supports only the strong and business class people. But it fleeces the blood of poor and middle class people. Assembly elections in the State are nearing. They have planned to increase the price now and decrease a little by election time. This is just a stunt. Is this what they call as a new idea of managing expenses?,” he has questioned.
He has also demanded the government not to increase the prices of electricity at any cost. While the government couldn’t provide hurdle-free power supply to rural areas, what rights does it have to increase the prices? If the price of electric supply is increased a massive protest will be taken out, “he has warned.
