No. of people availing higher education should increase: UoM VC

Mysuru, July 26, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “The number of higher education institutions in the state is growing. But, higher education is not reachable to everyone,” observed Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore.
He participate in the one-day free workshop on the topic, “Research Methods and Publication,” organized by the University of Mysore Researchers Association, CSIR-UGC Net Training Center, under the auspices of the Internal Quality Assessment Centre, held at the EMRC auditorium in Manasa Gangotri campus.
In his address, he said, “lesser job opportunities for graduates, declined quality of teaching, declining grants, funds and due to complex management policies the education sector is facing several problems. Higher education has remained a mirage for many aspirants. The present statistic is 27.1%. However, it is aimed to increase this number to 32% by 2022. Both the State and the Union governments are attempting to transform the education system and fulfill the ambitions of the society.”
“We are celebrating our 75th Independence day this year. Azadi ka Amruth Mahotsav is observed the entire year. As a nation, our scientific achievements have triggered new hope for a new future. Higher education institutions are growing faster in our country. There are an estimated 52,000 institutions as of now, which is four times more compared to the 2001 statistics. While it is indeed a matter to be happy, it has also created new challenges,” he explained.
“This workshop will show how much important are research works to increase the quality of education. Moreover, it also discusses the research methods. I advise the students to utilize this opportunity,” he added.
Former Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.R. Niranjan inaugurated the workshop. Prof. P. Balram, Former Director of Indian Science Institute presented the introductory speech. Prof. G. Venkatesh Kumar, Chairperson, Psychological Research Division, and IQAC Director Prof. N.S. Harinarayan participated. Dr. K.N. Amrutesh, Coordinator Dr. J. Lohith, and University of Mysore Researchers Association Chairperson Nataraj Shivanna were present.
