Case of death of student Naveen at Ukraine: Former CM HDK expresses ire on NEET

Bengaluru, March 2, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): Former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has expressed his displeasure over the incident of the death of a student of Karnataka who died in a missile attack by Russian forces in Ukraine.
In his tweet he mentioned, “NEET (National Eligibility and Entrance Test) is destroying the dreams of the youth hailing from poor and middle-class families and parents. Higher education is being reserved only for the rich and denied to the poor and the middle class. The death of a student Naveen, hailing from Karnataka who had migrated to Ukraine to pursue his dream course in medicine has exposed the unscrupulous face of the NEET system. The injustice meted out to the talented poor and rural youth in the name of ‘Eligibility’ needs to be stopped.”
“NEET has made the dreams of pursuing medicine of lakhs of youth hailing from poor families a mirage. Thousands of ‘tuition shops’ have come up after NEET is introduced. They are making a business of crores of rupees, swindling lakhs of rupees from the students. About 99% of the students who are becoming eligible for medicine are those who have completed coaching. This is proof of the commercialization,” his tweet read.
“Who is behind all these ‘tuition shops’? Is the Union Govt. hiding behind this? How many more lives of students should go due to the ‘Educational Anarchy’ that NEET has created,” he has questioned.
