ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕ  ಇಲಾಖೆ ಕಚೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಇಲಾಖೇ ಆಯುಕ್ತ ದಿನೇಶ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾರಿಗೆ ನೌಕರರ ಮುಖಂಡರ ಜೊತೆ ಸಂಧಾನ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಆದರೆ  ಸಾರಿಗೆ ನೌಕರರನ್ನು ಮನವೊಲಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ವಿಫಲರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಎಸ್ ಆರ್ ಟಿಸಿ ಬಿಎಂಟಿಸಿ ಸೇರಿ ನಾಲ್ಕು ನಿಗಮಗಳ ಮುಖಂಡರು, ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಭಾಗಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.   ಸಭೆ ವಿಫಲವಾದ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇ 20 ರಂದು ಸಾರಿಗೆ ನೌಕರರ ಮುಷ್ಕರ ಫಿಕ್ಸ್  ಎನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಈ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಲಾರಿ ಮಾಲೀಕರ ಸಂಘದ ಜೊತೆ ಇಂದು  ಸಾರಿಗೆ ಸಚಿವ ರಾಮಲಿಂಗರೆಡ್ಡಿ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಸುತ್ತಿನ ಸಂಧಾನ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಆದರೆ ಮೊದಲ ಸುತ್ತಿನ ಸಂಧಾನ ಸಭೆ ವಿಫಲವಾಗಿದೆ.  ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಎಂ ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯ ಜೊತೆ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಸುತ್ತಿನ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ.

ಸಂಜೆ 5.30ಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾವೇರಿ ನಿವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಎಂ ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯ ಅವರು ಲಾರಿ ಮಾಲೀಕರ ಸಂಘದ ಜತೆ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ.

Buildings are being demolished at a frenetic pace in Karnataka, wiping out their histories, memories, and cultural symbols. The government school building at Nellikatte, located in Puttur, has been added to the list. There was more to it than just an old school. Over the last 156 years, it has seen light, dusk, dust, and more. For those who value history, the building has become just a memory since December 12, 2021.
The dilapidated Nellikatte primary school was razed to the ground at around midnight, reportedly by its School Development and Monitoring Committee. There aren’t many eyewitnesses to this midnight operation demolition, except probably the operators of the earthmovers. The building, due to the age factor, the vagaries of weather, and lack of maintenance, had become unfit for occupation for very many years. In a way, it was an abandoned, unsafe building. Reportedly, a portion of the building collapsed when children were in the vicinity on December 11. As an urgent measure, the SDMC, in its super wisdom, carried out the night operation, it is said.
Heritage
The story is not as simple as this. The building’s past is very interesting. In 1865, the British government constructed this elementary school. This was the first school established by the British in Puttur. The area is about 3,26 acres and is located close to the government bus stand. It was upgraded to a higher primary school after Independence. For decades, the building was impressive, with a good foundation, bulky pillars, and wooden beams. Huge red laterite stones had given it a majestic look.
With the building getting the tag of unsafe, the classes were shifted to the nearby buildings. Less than 100 students have enrolled. The colleges run here were also shifted a long time back.
It is said that for a decade since 1935, Dr. Shivaram Karanth, the literary giant, used the school premises for conducting cultural activities, including dance and drama. There was a small hall with a Greek-style theatre in the centre. There were steps to reach the stage below. No less than 700 to 800 students used to be there in a year. The school witnessed Puttur’s first Dasara and hosted the town’s first public Ganesh Utsava.
The SDMC and several individuals had pressured the government to renovate the fragile heritage building, but to no avail. In the last 10 years, efforts have been made to get funding from the government to renovate the building. Many prominent locals in the town have been fighting for the preservation of the heritage building. According to the SDMC, the roof had fallen last Sunday, and finally, it collapsed on its own. The demand for initial grants was just about Rs 50 lakh.
Now the block education officer and other officers have been asked by the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner to submit an inquiry report. This sort of exercise serves no purpose because the building has turned into rubble.
Vested interests?
The locals are furious now at the casual approach of the people concerned about pulling down the building. Sadashiv Pai, a social worker in the town, says a great blunder has been committed. “The government or SDMC should have raised funds from the alumni of the school. Dr. Gowri Pai, the well-known doctor and owner of the Anand Ashram in Puttur, attended the Nellikatteschool. The committee could have tapped Dr. Gowri and more such alumni who are the proud students and achievers of the school. A committee should have been formed to ideate and raise funds, “he says.
Pai pointed out that the SDMCs are like political bodies. The government has shifted its responsibility to the SDMCs, which is not good. “Instead of preserving the building, overnight, it has been pulled down. Is the SDMC authorised to handle such sensitive issues? Without issuing a public notification regarding it, how come it was decided to do away with the building? We lost one of the oldest buildings in the region. More than a safety issue, there must be some vested interest or political lobby behind the demolition, “Pai says.
It is difficult to understand why anyone should have to step into an abandoned, unsafe school, such as the Nellikatte School. This could have been restricted if it had been cordoned off with a caution notice. Unless abandoned buildings are protected, they will become dens of illegal activity. A building that falls on its own won’t become rubble like the Nellikatte school. Anyhow, the damage has been done with the least respect for history. More than the SDMC, it is the education department and government that have to be blamed for neglecting it over the decades.
The century-old Gustav Hermann Krumbigel hall at Lalbagh in Bengaluru collapsed some years ago. A new building resembling the old one has been constructed to house many cultural activities. Now, similar efforts are required for the Nellikatte school building. It is also time to take stringent action against those who decided to pull down the heritage building. It looks like a collective effort by people associated with the building to vandalise it. After all, it is prime land in the centre of the town. It’s strange that no elected representative of Puttur is addressing the issue.

ಈ ಕುರಿತು ಇಂದು ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯಿಸಿದ ಸಿದ್ಧರಾಮಯ್ಯ, ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಮೋದಿ ಬಿಎಸ್ ವೈ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ  ಜನರು ಭ್ರಮನಿರಸನರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಳೆದ 7 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಮೋದಿ  ಸುಳ್ಳು ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಗತ್ಯ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ಬೆಲೆ 2014ರಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಷ್ಟು ಈಗ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಈಗ ದುಪ್ಪಟ್ಟು ಆಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಮೋದಿಯವರ ಅಚ್ಚೇದಿನ್ ..?  ಬೆಲೆ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಸೋತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಲೇವಡಿ ಮಾಡಿದರು.

ಬಿಎಸ್ ಯಡಿಯೂರಪ್ಪ ಅಪರೇಷನ್ ಕಮಲ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಹಾಗಂದರೇ ಹಣ ನೀಡಿ ಶಾಸಕರನ್ನ ಖರೀದಿಸುವುದು. ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಂದಿರಾ ಕ್ಯಾಂಟಿನ್, ಕೃಷಿ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಯೋಜನೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅನ್ನಭಾಗ್ಯ ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಕೂಡ ಕಡಿತ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಅಸಮಾಧಾನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.
