Mysuru, September 3, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore has informed that a cleanliness drive has been initiated to make the University of Mysore campus plastic-free.
He participated in the cleanliness drive organized as part of the ‘Swachch Gangotri Week,’ held near the Open Air Theater Round Canteen in Manasagangotri campus today, jointly organized by the Swachatha Abhiyana Samiti, University of Mysore and Internal Quality Assessment Committee (IQAC). MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev inaugurated the program.
In his address, Prof. G. Hemanth KUmar said cleanliness drives would be undertaken once in two months with the participation of students, teaching, and non-teaching staff. He called upon the students to keep the campus clean like they do in their houses.
MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev in his address expressed his view that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a cleanliness drive was the inspiration behind organizing the program. “We did not have the perception of cleaning Mysuru city by ourselves. We all kept our egos aside and worked for that. All the officials were involved in cleaning many places including the Dalit colony, crematoriums, schools, temples, roads, footpaths, etc. It is not possible to do anything and everything with money. Cleanliness should not become the work of an agency. It should become our duty,” he said.
Prof. R. Shivappa, Registrar, University of Mysore, Syndicate members Dr. E.C. Ningaraj Gowda, University of Mysore NNS Program Officer Dr. Suresh, Internal Quality Assurance Committee Director Dr. N.S. Harinarayana, Cleanliness Drive Committee President Dr. M.Y. Srinivas, Amruthesh, Pratap, Pavitra, and others were present.
