Mysuru, Nov. 12, 2020 (www.justkannada.in): “Due to Corona pandemic the country is reeling under many problems and such webinars on the topic ‘Current Issues and Economic Development’ is more relevant,” opined Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore.
He launched the National Webinar on the above mentioned topic, organized by the Department of Economics and Cooperation, University of Mysore, today at 5 pm.
“The topic of this webinar is very relevant especially during this turbulent times and discussion with the resource persons and experts on how to take the country’s economy towards progress is very much necessary,” he added.
Prof. K.S. Rangappa, former VC, University of Mysore in his address explained that Indian economy is particularly facing five challenges: weak demand, ballooning unemployment, lack of fiscal stimulus, rising inflation and rising corona cases. “The annual GDP is expected to sink below 5.10 which is the lowest in the last four decades and the National GDP for the first trimester of this financial year is expected to shrink by 16.50 per cent,” he added.Discussions - economic development - needed  Corona.Chancellor Prof. G. Prof. N.R. Bhanumruthy, Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School of Economics, Bengaluru spoke about “COVID-19 and Macroeconomic Policy Responses in India”.
