Mysuru, March 10, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “Every woman should get inspired by women achievers like Mary Kom, Sania Mirza, P.V. Sindhu, Mother Teresa and try to become achievers like them,” observed Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore.
He participated in an International Women’s Day program on the topic, “Present-day Gender Equality for a Sustainable Future,” held at the Vignana Bhavana in Manasagangotri campus.
In his address, he said, “If we analyze our history, women in India have not shared equal position in our society. We had restricted them only to play the roles of wife and mother. Ours has been a patriarchal society. Women were never encouraged to come beyond the kitchen. International Women’s Day has a history of 109 years. A political party in America started a protest against unequal wages, job opportunities, voting rights, etc. for women, in New York. It protested along with 15,000 women. International Women’s Day took birth from there. This is a day when all the women come together to commemorate their struggle for peace, justice, equality, and progress,” he explained.
Sri Ashwathi S., Deputy Commissioner, Mandya District, Sumana Kitturu, Kannada Film Director, Prof. R. Shivappa, Registrar, University of Mysore, A.P. Jnanaprakash, Syndicate member Chaitra Narayan, Finance Officer Sangeeta Gajanan Bhat, and others were present.
