Lab equipment at the Jawaharlal Nehru Research Center damaged due to rain: CM inspects

Bengaluru, November 23, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): Laboratory equipment worth lakhs of rupees, along with samples at the Jawaharlal Nehru Research Center, have been destroyed due to heavy rain.
The Nehru Research Center is known as one of the best research centers in the entire world. Several samples were stored here from the last 10-15 years. Due to heavy rain, water entered the laboratory destroying several valuable equipment and samples.
The samples, which have been destroyed include human samples that were collected from several parts of the country, including the Himalayas, Kashmir, and Punjab. These human samples relating to HIV, Fits, Malaria, deafness, neurology, were collected more than 15 years ago. All have been destroyed due to rain.
Several studies were conducted here on several kinds of diseases for which samples were collected from several parts of the country. Due to heavy rains that lashed the city in the last two days, rainwater accumulated on the campus, forcing the shutting down of the power supply. As a result of this, the power supply to the laboratory also stopped, and many important samples were damaged. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai visited the campus and inspected it.
Speaking on the occasion, he informed the JN CASR has incurred a huge loss. “I had come here about two months ago. I had come to know about the inflow of drainage water into the campus. The water level in the tanks nearby is just 8 ft. But the water flow in the canals is not smooth. There has been a lot of damage. It is the responsibilty of the State Government to conserve it. We will prepare a master plan to restore and protect it,” he added.
