“Just words won’t protect forest”: B.P.Ravi

Mysuru, June 5, 2022 (www.justkannada.in): “Only 3 million forest area is remaining. Whereas, 17 million forest area is facing litigation and encroachments. It will be good if all this land returns to the forest department,” observed Zoo Authority member secretary B.P.Ravi.
He participated in the Environment Day celebrations organized by the Environment Department in the Manasa Gangotri campus today, on the occasion of ‘World Environment day.’ “Forest conservation doesn’t exist in books. Just words won’t help in protection of forests. Nothing will happen if you sit at home. You should make field visits and do lot of studies in order to conserve forest area. The Chamarajendra Zoo in Mysuru is not functioning from government aid. It is running from the fee paid by the visitors to the zoo. We faced lot of problem during the COVID pandemic time. However, so many donors stepped forward and helped the animals,” he explained.
“Environment means not just forest. It includes our surroundings. It is the duty of all of us to conserve environment. Everyone should reduce plastic consumption and stop throwing garbage everywhere,” he added.
In his address, Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore said, “the price of land is more than gold today. We shouldn’t lose it. There is only one earth for human beings to live. It is the responsibility of all of us to protect it, save it and pass it on to our future generations.”
Dr. G.V. Venkataramana, Dr. S.Srikantaswamy, Dr. N.S.Raju and others were present.
