Decision to demolish down Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Building in Mysuru
Mysuru, July 16, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): Urban Development Minister Byrati Basavaraj has informed that the iconic Devaraja Market and Lansdowne buildings will be demolished.
Speaking to the presspersons in Mysuru today he said that both the buildings will be demolished and development works will be undertaken within the next two months. “Both these buildings have become dilapidated and hence it is very difficult to retain them. Plans are being made to construct both the buildings retaining the traditional design,” he explained.
“While the expected cost of constructing the Devaraja market is Rs.100 crore, the cost to reconstruct the Lansdowne building is Rs. 45 crore. The Devaraja market building will be demolished only after providing an alternative place for the shopkeepers there. The alternative place will be provided only for those who are doing business there. However, we are contemplating reconsidering it. Both the buildings will be re-inspected once again before demolition,” he added.
On the occasion, he also informed that the multi-level parking facility in the Town Hall premises will start functioning within the next 15 days.
