Bengaluru, September 6, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): Governor of Karnataka Thwawar Chand Gehlot has assured to initiate legal measures against the alleged corrupt practices taking place in the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) and protect it.
Dr. N.S. Ramegowda, Former Vice-Chancellor, KSOU, and Dr.Chambi Puranik, Former Dean met the Hon’ble Governor in Bengaluru on the occasion of Teachers Day and submitted a 33-page complaint against the corrupt practices taking place in KSOU.
Dr. N.S. Ramegowda and Dr. Chambi Puranik informed that they met the governor and discussed for 15 minutes. “We have explained about all the corruption that is taking place in KSOU in recent years. We apprised him about the unscientific decisions of the present KSOU Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. Vidyashankar, unnecessary construction of buildings which leads to large-scale corruption and fast melting of funds. More than Rs.400 crore has been spent in the last few years for non-educational purposes. It is not functioning as an educational institution, instead, it is converted into Public Works Department,” they said.
“The KSOU was a reputed institution till a few years ago. But it has reached almost the closure stage. Its post mortem will be held in the nearest future if this situation continues. We have urged the Hon’ble governor to set right things and reinstall the lost glory. The governor has responded positively to our request of issuing a white paper about the financial discrepancies of KSOU. The KSOU should have initiated new educational programs on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee. But the officials concerned are interested only in concentrating on financial expenditure. The Vice-Chancellor is more interested in constructing extension centers. Students won’t come to KSOU often. Hence, there is no need for immense infrastructure,” they said
“We have provided all the documents and the governor has assured us of taking action. In case if no action is taken we take up the legal struggle,” they added.
