Ambedkar Jayanthi celebrations will become meaningful only when there is no inequality, untouchability in the society

Mysuru, Apr. 14, 2021 (www.justkannada.in): “Inequality, exploitation, and untouchability exist even today in our society. Celebrating Ambedkar Jayanthi will become meaningful only when all these disappear from the society,” opined Prof. G. Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore.
He inaugurated a program organized by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research Extension Centre and SC/ST Special unit, University of Mysore to felicitate rank holders and Ph.D. holders belonging to SC/ST communities, on the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 130th Jayanthi, held at the Vishwajnani auditorium in Manasagangotri.
In his address, he expressed his view that it is very sad to see that the ethics that exist in our constitution in fact doesn’t exist in the society. “We all have to build a democracy that makes India stronger as dreamt by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,” he said.
“Ambedkar is the person who created a new India. He brought a new ray of hope among the downtrodden by preparing our country for a social change. As a result of this today, Ambedkar has the most number of statues in the entire world. Studies and researches on Ambedkar are held in prestigious educational institutions across the world today. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s principles exists even today in values, progress, and humanitarian grounds,” he added.
Dr. Rajashekar Vundru, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana presented a special lecture on the occasion.
SC/ST students who have obtained Ph.D. and ranks in degree and post-graduate courses were felicitated on the occasion.
Prof. R. Shivappa, Registrar, University of Mysore, C. Basavalingaiah, Theater Expert, Prof. S. Mahadevamurthy, Deputy Registrar, SC, and ST Special Unit, Prof. J. Somashekar, Director, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre, University of Mysore were present.
